Hi, as anticipated, Steve McQueen's slave drama 12 Years a Slave got Best Picture of 2013 and was able to turn 3 of 9 nominations into Oscars, but was trumped by sci-fi thriller Gravity, which performed a perfect take-off with 7 Oscars including the important Directing Oscar for Alfonso Cuarón.
The HIV drama Dallas Buyers Club earned three deserved Oscars: Matthew McConaughey was awarded the Best Actor Oscar for playing a racist and homophobic Texan, who later finds out that he is HIV positive. Jared Leto's wonderful performance as a trans woman earned him the Best Actor in a supporting role Oscar, and lastly makeup and hairstyling was also worth a statue. It is also nice to see that a movie with a relatively low budget (5.5 millions) can also make it to the top in Hollywood.
Big looser of the 86th Academy Awards was Golden Globe favorite American Hustle, which was not able to turn any of its 10 Oscar nominations into gold.
