Hi, during the search for a new domain for my blog, I have thought a lot about brands and what top brands such as Coca Cola, Red Bull, Playboy, YouTube, Apple, Yves Saint Laurent, The Cut, Style Bubble, Bryan Boy, The Sartorialist etc. have in common.

Analyzing successful brands, I have come up with the following check-list making up the perfect brand.

The Perfect Brand

• is memorizable and recognizable
• has a positive connotation
• is easy to pronounce and to write
• has a meaningful relation to the product
• is highly emotional
• is short (the shorter the better)

Think of this when starting your own blog or whatever, because it is really hard to change the name afterwards.

On the other hand, brand names as such are often stupid and feel empty at the beginning. In fact, every brand starts as a blank canvas.

Big companies spend a lot of money for advertising to fill this canvas, creating an image, they want to be associated with.

But the advertised image does not always correspond to the true image of the brand, which leads us to:
